Mass-Produced All-Solid-State Battery

At CES 2026, Donut Lab announced that it will introduce what it claims to be the world’s first all-solid-state battery ready for OEM mass production. The battery will be first applied to Verge Motorcycles’ TS Pro and Ultra two-wheel motorcycle models. If ultimately delivered to customers, this will represent a significant milestone in the global electrification journey, marking the transition of solid-state battery technology from the laboratory to mass-produced vehicles.

In a press release on its official website, Donut Lab stated: “Donut Lab has always been committed to innovation and the delivery of new forms of electrification solutions. By continuously pushing the performance limits of electric vehicles and successfully bringing technology to market, Donut Lab is shaping the future of mobility. Now, Donut Lab is proud to introduce the world’s first all-solid-state battery designed for OEM vehicle manufacturing. Donut Lab’s solid-state battery will be deployed on the road immediately, powering Verge Motorcycles’ existing lineup.”

All-Solid-State Batteries Can Be Fully Charged in Just 5 Minutes

According to Donut Lab, its all-solid-state battery delivers an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, enabling longer driving range, lighter structures, and unprecedented flexibility in vehicle and product design.

The battery can be fully charged in just 5 minutes, without the need to limit charging to 80%, and it supports safe, repeatable, and reliable full-depth discharge.

Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, this all-solid-state battery exhibits minimal capacity degradation over its lifetime and is designed for up to 100,000 charge–discharge cycles, offering a practical service life far beyond existing technologies. Safety is at its core: there is no flammable liquid electrolyte, no chain thermal runaway reactions, and no metal dendrite formation. These characteristics fundamentally eliminate the root causes of battery fires, making the technology exceptionally safe and truly revolutionary.

Donut Lab stated that the battery’s performance has been rigorously tested under extreme conditions. At extremely low temperatures (–30°C), the battery retains more than 99% of its capacity. When heated to temperatures exceeding 100°C, it continues to maintain over 99% capacity, with no signs of fire or degradation.

In terms of raw materials and cost, Donut Lab noted that its solid-state battery is made entirely from abundant, low-cost, and geopolitically secure materials, without reliance on rare or sensitive elements, and demonstrates lower costs compared to lithium-ion batteries.

However, Donut Lab did not disclose the specific materials required to manufacture the all-solid-state battery cells.

Current Application Scenarios of All-Solid-State Batteries

Veteran automotive journalist Antuan Goodwin had a close-up look at Donut Lab’s all-solid-state battery prototype at this year’s CES. According to his observations, the battery is roughly the size of a large-screen smartphone (such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max) and is exceptionally lightweight. This ultra-light battery design is also expected to be highly suitable for future drone applications.

At present, Donut Lab’s approach is to combine these batteries into larger 5 kWh power units, each approximately the size of a PlayStation 5 console. Four such power units are then integrated into the frame of the Verge TS Pro. This breakthrough in design is made possible by Donut Lab’s hubless ring motor integrated into the rear wheel, which the company unveiled last year.

It is reported that Verge Motorcycles’ electric motorcycles can now be powered by Donut Lab’s all-solid-state batteries, making them the world’s first mass-produced vehicles to adopt this groundbreaking technology. With Verge motorcycles equipped with the solid-state battery set to hit the road in the first quarter, the electric motorcycle can now be charged in just 10 minutes, delivering up to 60 kilometers of combined range per minute of charging. The long-range version offers a driving range of up to 600 kilometers on a single charge.

Donut Lab and Verge Motorcycles announced on Monday that Verge motorcycles equipped with the new battery will be open for pre-orders starting today, with first deliveries scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. The TS Pro will start at a price of USD 29,900.

Beyond the electric motorcycle segment, solid-state battery technology is widely regarded as even more significant for the broader electric vehicle market. Goodwin noted that the advantages of this technology become more pronounced in larger vehicles, where weight reduction and faster charging create a compounding effect. On Monday, Donut Lab also announced a partnership with electric vehicle company WATTEV to develop an ultra-lightweight, modular electric vehicle platform that integrates Donut Lab’s motor and battery technologies.

Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimki stated, “The advantages of solid-state batteries are obvious, but their future has long remained uncertain. Whenever asked when they would truly be applied to electrification, past answers from the industry have often been disappointing. Donut Lab’s answer is clear: solid-state batteries can be used in OEM mass-produced vehicles today—there is no need to wait.”

Lehtimki added proudly, “When we first unveiled the Donut motor at CES last year, many people did not believe it was real—until they saw the technology operating on the road and setting multiple world records. Now, with our fully solid-state Donut battery, Donut Lab has done it again. We waited to announce this breakthrough until the technology had been thoroughly tested, validated, and proven in real-world vehicle applications. Today, these batteries are genuinely deployed in mass-produced vehicles, representing the future of electric mobility.”

Current Application Scenarios

Conclusion

Overall, Donut Lab’s announcement of the “world’s first all-solid-state battery” not only demonstrates its strong innovation capabilities in battery technology, but also opens up new possibilities for the industry. If this technology can achieve large-scale mass production and pass rigorous safety and performance validation, it is expected to have a profound impact on electric mobility, energy storage, and related applications, driving the solid-state battery industry toward a new stage defined by higher safety standards and greater energy density.
